Jewish Holidays Project
In addition to the obvious hardship entailed in caring for a family with one limited source of income, a large number of single parent families are new immigrants and baalei teshuva with no family support system. Therefore many of them experience financial hardships and extreme loneliness celebrating the Jewish holidays. Unfortunately, times when families should be sitting together happily around the holiday table might turn into a time of crisis for single parent families.
For this reason 'Em Habanim' established the Jewish Holidays Project. In the framework of the project, every year we have three yearly communal holiday retreats for single parent families: On Rosh Hashana, Simchat Torah, and Pesach.
Celebrating the holidays together in an enjoyable and constructive atmosphere, alleviates social isolation and loneliness, strengthens the family unit, and reinforces their ties to Judaism.
